International Women's Day at The Fort
We’re celebrating International Women’s Day by posting a few words of advice, quotes and inspiring stories from just some of the staff and shoppers here at The Fort.
YOU ARE AMAZING AND DOING A FANTASTIC JOB, AT HOME AND AT WORK!
“Working full time can take its toll on many, but being a mum can make it even more challenging at times. I salute all the working mums out there, no matter how many hours you do. You are amazing and doing a fantastic job, at home and at work! Try not to worry about the washing, ironing or dishes, just enjoy your time with your little ones - they grow so fast” Dawn, No7 Business Manager
I LOVE HOW WOMEN ARE NATURALLY A FANTASTIC SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR EACH OTHER. “The women I work with inspire me daily. I can go anywhere in the store and find someone different who has an inspirational or motivating story or attitude. They bring me up when I am down and I am proud to be a part of the team. I love how women are naturally a fantastic support system for each other.” Cheryl, Boots Assistant Manager
BE BOLD AND ENJOY LIFE!
“Stay focused, it does not matter what obstacle comes your way. Stay strong, be bold and enjoy life babes!” Farah, Coty
I’VE FOUGHT BREAST CANCER AND I AM STRONG!
“I am proud of myself for overcoming breast cancer. It’s been two years since having breast cancer and I have been through so much, but I’m still staying strong. I have gained strength and inspiration from so many women around me. From family and friends, to the make-up ladies at Boots, who have helped me feel confident using make up again. Women are the best at rallying around each other.” Chrissie, Boots Customer
NEVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU YOU’RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Back in the late 1970’s, and in the last year at school, my teachers told me that I wasn’t expected to amount to much. I could have left in the February like my friends did but although I hated school; I decided to sit my exams. It felt like a savings account that I had put in to for 11 years and to leave without doing them would have been like walking away without the interest. I finished school with average grades. I went to college for catering and finished with distinctions. I started to work as a waitress and over the years became the first female Restaurant Manager of a 4 star City Centre Hotel – can you believe this was quite unheard of in the 80’s?! I even went on to be Duty manager, responsible for the whole hotel. My career has taken me to hotels, football clubs and of course, as a store manager here at The Fort. I am the proud owner of three major national hospitality awards in London ,Cardiff and Coventry and our store at the Fort is the number one store for charity work in the UK, supporting Birmingham City Mission and our Costa Foundation.
I am proud of all my achievements and if there was one thing I’d say it’s: Never let anyone tell you not much is expected of you. If you want it, go for it! You can be who you want to be! Always be nice to people it costs nothing!
Julie, Costa Store Manager
BUY THE SHOES!
“My grandmother always says, “Buy the shoes!” when I am holding back on making a decision or not pushing myself to really go for it. Getting the perspective or advice from the older women in my life really helps me.” Rachael, Next customer
