In-between helping customers here at The Fort, Jamil spared us some time to tell us his insider tips and a bit about himself…
Tell us about your background and how you came to do what you do now.
I started working in retail at the age of 18, as I had a keen interest in fashion and style.
After three and a half years, my love for fashion has grown significantly and I now consider it to be a part of my everyday life. Not only do I enjoy styling myself, but I also enjoy styling my friends, family and also customers on a day to day basis.
What are you up to now in terms of life and career?
I graduated from university in July 2016, after studying Events Management. I am now looking to establish a career I can flourish in.
What are your main hobbies and interests?
My main hobbies include music, art, fashion, modelling and culture.
What does fashion and style mean to you?
Fashion is a way of expressing my individuality, through the pieces I wear.
Tell us about your personal fashion choices/style and where you get your inspiration from.
Variety is important! I like to be able to switch up my style and have versatility in what I wear and pair together. My inspiration derives from street fashion and also social networks such as Tumblr and Instagram (the explore feature is amazing!).
What is your one ‘must-have’ winter fashion staple?
A parka coat. This can carry you through many winter days as they never go out of fashion and remain a wardrobe staple must-have!
What does working at the Fort mean to you?
Having all of my favourite stores in one place is the best thing about working at The Fort. Being able to see all the fantastic new lines coming through each month is a big influence on my life in fashion both in and outside work.
Ps… can we all take a second to appreciate Jamil’s colour pop Chelsea boots!
