In 1971 the very first cup of Costa coffee was poured on a grey day in London. Brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa created the coffee and first sold it to a handful of local caterers, then to some delicatessens and a few years later they opened their first coffee shop.
Today Costa is the largest and fastest growing coffee shop chain in the UK, with just under 1,600 stores. Forty years later and the coffee remains exactly the same, even down to the methods and equipment used to roast the beans.
Costa control the whole coffee-making process from start to finish, from the sourcing, right through to storing, blending, roasting, grinding and pouring. Committed to looking after their coffee-growers the company have established The Costa Foundation, a registered charity which aims are to relieve poverty, advance education and improve the health and environment of coffee-growing communities around the world. So far, with the help of Costa’s loyal customers, the foundation has funded the building of 22 schools and made a very real difference to thousands of children.
There is a second Costa coffee in the Next store, so whichever end of the shopping park you most need a pick me up, Costa is ready and waiting with a warm cup of coffee!
